SUMMARY: Youth instructors are responsible for supervision of children and the planning, preparation and instruction of youth classes, camps and/or programs for children ages 3-7 years.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Supervision of children
-Plans and instructs daily/weekly age-appropriate activities for children to include but not limited to indoor/outdoor games, crafts, and educational activities revolving around farm animals and farm life.
-Prepares for classes/camps activities as well as the clean-up following activities
-Responsible for the maintenance of classroom/camp space
-Greet children and parents in a friendly manner
-Responsible for checking children in and out of classes/camps
-Knowledge of children whereabouts always
-Responsible for class/camp inventory and supply requests
-Must treat children with respect in all areas including discipline
-Attend meetings as needed
-Represent the City in a positive, professional, and healthy manner.
-Supervising children milking a cow, and grooming and leading a pony
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None.

-Frequently works independently without direct supervision.
-Farm experience is helpful, must be willing to learn about farm animals.
-Must enjoy working with children, must be patient and flexible to meet the demands children require.
-Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with co-workers, participants and the public.
-Communicates effectively in both oral and written form with external and internal customers.
-Communicates effectively in both oral and written form with parents, participants, and outside agencies.
-Ability to show sensitivity in dealing with all age groups, persons with disabilities, and a diverse population.
-Basic computer knowledge
-Ability to understand and apply department procedures and policies.
-Ability to handle sensitive or stressful situations with tact and diplomacy.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Must be willing to work with children in an animal environment. Minimum age 15.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Must be able to communicate effectively with children, parents, staff and the general public.
Must be able to effectively give directions to children between the ages of 3-7.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
-Must past background check and drug test
-CPR and First Aid Certification preferred
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
The employee is regularly required to stand, walk; sit; crawl, kneel, jump, run stoop, crouch, reach with hands and arms. The employee must have the ability to lift up to 40 lbs., lead children in extended periods of exercise and movement, must be able to control children in both an indoor and outdoor environment.
Must be able to work in various weather conditions including extreme heat, ability to participate in games with children, may need to drive a tractor drawn hayride, and be able to groom a pony.
MENTAL DEMANDS: Ability to be effective in an environment of noisy, happy children; must be able to define acceptable behavior and maintain order of the participants
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is outside at least 50% of the time. Allergy conditions exist everywhere (farm animals, hay, grass, trees, etc.)
