Accountant Sr I (Hybrid Schedule) (Finance)
Position Description
This position is responsible for general accounting functions that support the Kinder Morgan Energy Transition Ventures (ETV). ETV business segment focuses on producing and delivery of landfill derived RNG along with carbon capture and sequestration opportunities to meet today's energy transition needs. This position will focus on customer billing, AR collections and various reporting requirements. We offer a hybrid schedule (Monday-Wednesday in office, Thursday-Friday remotely). We also offer a 9/80 Work Schedule.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare and issue accurate, timely customer invoices for various commodities in accordance with the customer agreement
- Collaborate with the Commercial and Operations group to interpret contractual terms and validate volumetric data for billing
- Identify and resolve any discrepancies in billing records in a timely and professional manner
- Calculate Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) and record respective journal entries on as needed basis
- Perform month-end closing including billing, generating revenue and COGS accruals, and Journal Entry recording
- Perform AR and GL transactions interface/upload across all systems
- Promptly follow up with customers for timely AR collections and assist with cash application process
- Complete volumetric and financial reporting to various government authorities and to State Tax authorities
- Produce and distribute broker statements in accordance with the contractual agreement
- Continuously identify and implement process improvements for billing efficiency and accuracy
- Perform Balance Sheet reconciliations according to the company policy and timely resolving the reconciling items
- Assist in the billing system migration process, including testing, analysis, and validation of the final output.
- Maintain SOX compliance and consolidate related documentation.
- Assist with internal/external audit requests and perform additional Ad Hoc duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
Position Requirements/Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting required
- 4-6 years of billing, invoicing, and/or revenue accounting experience in the energy industry
- Must have strong computer skills, intermediate to advanced knowledge of Excel is mandatory.
- Limited knowledge of QuickBooks is preferred.
- Must be able to learn and adapt quickly to new situations, as this job is at the forefront of a growing new industry for the company.
- Must have strong communication and organizational skills, the ability to prioritize work and to manage multiple demands and deadlines.
- Must be self-motivated and detailed oriented with the ability to perform and meet deadlines.
- Must be able to work with a team, take direction from supervisor(s), focus attention on details, follow work rules, and adhere to established work schedules.
- Overtime may be required during high volume periods (e.g., during close).
