Lifeguard Assistant (Security)

DEPARTMENT: Tamaya Wellness Center (TWC) SUPERVISOR: Aquatics Supervisor
GRADE: NE1
Position Summary:
Works under the supervision of the Aquatics Supervisor. Lifeguards Assistants are responsible for ensuring safety and cleanliness within the aquatics area. Ensure all policies and safety precautions are adhered to. *This position will work evenings, and weekends; hours will vary depending on the activities scheduled.*

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Ensures Safety in the pool area at all times.
Assist in Teaching individual and/or group swimming lessons.
Assist in basic pool maintenance and maintaining water quality standards.
Monitors individuals using the aquatic facilities to include operation and safety of equipment.
Assists the recreation program as needed.
Reports any unusual activity or unsafe conditions to management.
Performs additional duties and responsibilities as necessary or assigned.
Knowledge to perform in any emergency situation.

Minimum Qualifications
Currently enrolled in High school or GED program. Must be able to obtain American Red Cross Lifeguard certification. Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen and background investigation. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico drivers license and be insurable under the Pueblos insurance.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Certifications:
Must be an excellent swimmer.
Ability to work under limited supervision.
Ability to work with children, adults, and seniors.
Knowledge of general safety rules, equipment, games, and operating procedures.
Ability to read signs and labels and follow directions.
Ability to be flexible to changing schedules.
Knowledge of First Aid and CPR.
Physical Demands:
Specific required movements include the following: Trunk-bend, twist, rotate, push, pull, carry. Arms-reach, carries lift, twists, and rotates. Legs- lift, push, pull, twists, and rotate. Hands-grasp, manipulate, bilateral coordination, eye and hand coordination. Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
Work Environment:
Work is performed indoors and outdoors. Duties may involve walking, standing for long periods of time, sitting and crouching, swimming, water rescues and practice. Duties also involve adjusting pool chemistry and equipment when necessary.
Position Notes
Must be able to work long hours under occasionally stressful conditions. Subject to hazards that may cause personal bodily harm, smoke, common colds, influenza, dust, odors, chemicals, and elevated noise levels. Tasks may be performed on uneven, inclined, hard, soft, and slippery surfaces. Also on soft carpeted floors, cement structures, aquatic related entertainment equipment and structures.
