Machine Operator (Manufacturing)

Job Summary

This position involves the operation of a machine to retrieve and cut glass. The Machine Operator tracks, locates, and records edger production on schedules provided by Lead person. Communicate production demands with operators on each shift. Second shift hours are typically Monday through Friday, 3:00 pm to11:00 pm.  These positions may have daily or weekend overtime as dictated by the production schedule.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Separate material by job
• Tag and take to the next area.
• Must be able to read schedules and understand production demands.
• Must do inspections on all necessary items. Do quality checks on parts after fabrication.
• Adjust to working jobs according to ship dates
• Must produce in a timely manner
• Must be good at general math and reading measurements
• Operate overhead crane and vacuum lift. Perform routine maintenance on machines.
• Complete daily work sheets and forms.
• Regular and predictable attendance, safely performing tasks, and adherence to all safety policies and procedures are essential functions of your job.

Skills, Knowledge, and Ability Requirements 

To be considered for a fabrication position, the following conditions must be met:

• High School Diploma or Equivalent, preferred required
• Two years of previous work experience in a warehouse, manufacturing or production facility required
• Previous glass and/or fabrication experience highly desirable
• Ability to read, understand, and communicate paperwork and labels.
• Ability to read and interpret basic mathematical measurements
• Ability to read and understand fab drawings
• Ability to read and understand sketches and interpret their meaning onto glass edges.
• Must be able to work overtime as needed
• Must be physically capable of routinely lifting up to 75 lbs. and product of greater weight with moving aids and/or support help throughout the day.
• Must be able to follow all safety rules
• Basic computer familiarity
• Read and use a tape measure to 1/64”
• Read and perform mathematical calculations and measurements with numbers, fractions, and decimals normally acquired through high school education or equivalency

Equipment

• dolly, crane, glass cups, tape measure, pliers, glass cutter, and other various tools

Safety

• Hazards - Exposure to chemicals/fumes, pinch points, exposure to excessive noise, strains/sprain, laceration/puncture, particulate exposure, contusion, temperature extremes, slipping, burns, shock, loss of limbs
• Controls - Personal protective equipment, safety training, written procedures
• Safety Equipment - Back belt, safety glasses, steel toe shoes/boots with metatarsal guards, cut resistant gloves with liners, cut resistant outerwear

Work Environment

• Noise levels in the work environment can be moderate to high.
• The plant facility is subject to the same general climate conditions of the region (heat, cold, humidity, etc.)
• Chemicals, dust, pollen, and other typical airborne particulate matter are present within the atmosphere of the production floor and may create some odors in the plant. The Company, in an effort to provide its employees with a safe and healthy working environment, limits exposure to chemicals through written procedures, engineering controls, and PPE.
• While some chemicals may pose health risks if not properly used, employees are trained on the proper safety equipment and procedures for handling chemicals.
• While the chemical exposure and odors are under acceptable levels set by OSHA and the WCB, they nevertheless, can be smelled and are handled according to the company's hazardous communication program.
