Payroll Staff Accountant Job Summary:

The Payable Staff Accountant plays a key role in supporting the Accounting & Finance department by ensuring accurate payroll accounting and financial reporting. Reporting to the Accounting Manager, this position is responsible for recording payroll transactions in the general ledger, performing reconciliations, supporting audits, conducting payroll analysis and reporting to Senior Leadership, and serving as a backup to the payroll processing team.

Key responsibilities include preparing and posting payroll-related journal entries, reconciling payroll liability accounts, and ensuring compliance with GAAP and company policies. This role also manages intercompany payroll transactions, supports month-end and year-end close processes under tight deadlines, and assists with payroll tax filings, other regulatory reporting and both internal and external audit requests. Additionally, the position provides payroll-related audit support, analyzes payroll trends, and ensures compliance with industry-specific regulations, particularly in the healthcare sector.

This role requires strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and the ability to work in a high-demand environment while maintaining the accuracy and integrity of financial records.

Education:

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance. Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may substitute for education requirements.

Experience: 

• 3 years' Prior Accounting Experience
• Payroll experience
• Hospital or Healthcare Setting a Plus
