Summary:
The Sr. Paramedic operating in the Emergency Department will work under the delegation and direct supervision of a licensed physician using approved clinical skills for patients who are classified in the BLS or ALS category. The Sr. Paramedic will provide care to patients under the direction of the medical director to perform functions that support and supplement the health care team. The Sr. Paramedic will assist in managing the customer service experience of the patient and their families during patient care activities.
Responsibilities:
* Perform BLS and advanced skills during patient care including, but not limited to: initiation of PIV catheters; priming IV fluids (excluding blood products); naso/oral/pharyngeal suctioning and insertion of NG/OG tubes.
* Assist in emergency situations by initiating BLS and ALS life saving skills, assisting with chest compressions.
* Perform documentation of patient care in the electronic medical record per department and hospital guidelines.
* Administer approved medications per physician order or protocol.
* Apply family and patient centered care to all job aspects and support family during all phases of care.
* Assist in the training and development of new staff to the department. Provides objective feedback to team leader/manager related to progress of new hires.
* Participate in meetings, committees, and maintain all required training.
* Perform the transport of patients to procedures in adherence to hospital policy.
* Provide objective feedback to team leader/manager related to progress of new hires; perform basic and advanced skills in accordance with the ED Paramedic protocols; assist staff with the stabilization of critically ill and injured neonatal and pediatric patients.
WORK EXPERIENCE
* At least 2 years job related experience Req
* At least 1 year Experience in acute care/emergency setting Pref
* At least 1 year Pediatric experience Pref
EDUCATION
* High school diploma or equivalent required; additional training beyond high school Req
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
* Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers as required by CP 1.20 Life Support Course Requirements Req
* Either one of: Texas EMT-P license or Texas LP licensure Req
* PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) 180 Days Req
* ACLS (Advance Cardiac Life Support) certification 180 Days Req
* PPMAB 60 Days, Req
* Any one of: BTLS, ITLS or PHTLS (Basic Trauma Life Support/International Trauma Life Support, Pre-hospital Trauma Life Support) certification 180 Days Pref
