Job Summary:
The Scranton Public Library is seeking a part-time Library Clerk in the Adult Circulation Department. A successful candidate will have strong customer service skills, enjoy people and work well with all ages. Flexibility in availability is essential. The schedule is 25-30 hours a week and includes day, evening, and weekend shifts.
Primary Responsibilities:
Checking library materials in and out.
Register patrons for Library cards.
Answer and route incoming telephone calls.
Sort, inspect, and shelve returned materials.
Assist patrons looking for library materials in person or on the phone.
Assist patrons using the Online Catalog.
Helps conduct adult programs as needed.
Special projects and additional duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Requirements:
Ability to use office software, email, web-based applications, and a variety of mobile devices.
Works independently, takes initiative, and successfully completes duties.
Ability to work in a calm and friendly manner with patrons, co-workers, and volunteers.
Must be reliable and punctual.
Ability to work cooperatively in a culture that requires teamwork.
High school diploma or GED required.
Physical Demand and Work Environment:
Physical ability to stand / sit for long periods of time.
Lift up to 25lbs, reach, bend, kneel, crouch, and push carts loaded with books.
Physical and manual dexterity are needed to carry out job duties.
Ability to listen and clearly communicate with patrons in person, on the telephone, and in writing via electronic communication.

Starting Hourly Rate: $13.98-15.38 depending on experience.
Up to 5% TIAA-CREF matches retirement contributions.
