Responsible for inspecting, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing various systems, buildings, and programs to conform to standards of reliability, maintenance and quality across the yard in a safe and effective manner by performing the following duties:
Observes mechanical devices in operation and listens to their sounds to locate causes of trouble
Diagnose standard mechanical equipment problems
Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts.
Examines form and texture of parts to detect imperfections.
Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements using micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
Repairs or replaces defective parts
Utilize welding and fabrication tools to alter, repair, and fabricate processing equipment.
Perform the Preventative Maintenance Program established by the Company.
Document and report all maintenance work performed and advise of future requirements in a timely manner.
Tests and adjusts equipment to meet performance specifications.
Maintain a clean and safe working environment
Assist in shop operations in a responsive, efficient and safe manner.
Must own and be able to safely use personal mechanic's tools
A Mechanic 2 gains knowledge and experience required for promotion to Mechanic 1 under direction of experienced Mechanics by performing the above duties.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
Experience in hydraulics, electrical, pumps, valves, tools
Experience in hydraulics and welding
Excellent trouble-shooting skills
Basic mechanical knowledge in wood industry preferred
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Experience in fabrication and welding of various metals (including pipe welding)
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
Ability to write simple correspondence.
Ability to work independently and be flexible regarding work assignments.
Ability to read schematics and electrical drawings.
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
