Coolers Superintendent (Project Management)
Key Responsibilities:
Supervise and lead all cooler department operations, including managing hourly employees and ensuring safety and motivation.
Ensure the efficient handling, chilling, and rotation of carcasses to meet product specifications and maximize yield.
Responsible for coordinating with other departments (scheduling, fabrication, procurement) to ensure that carcasses are presented in alignment with USDA standards.
Manage cooler inventories, including carcass rotation, grading specifications, and branded program selections.
Collaborate with USDA graders, ensuring a productive working relationship and compliance with grading protocols.
Handle employee grievances, disputes, or problems efficiently, escalating unresolved matters to Human Resources.
Actively participate in group meetings, line meetings, and supervisory meetings, contributing to team development and problem-solving.
Conduct daily safety walks to identify and correct any compliance issues, ensuring adherence to all company safety policies and procedures.
Foster a culture of safety, continuous improvement, and quality excellence among all team members.
Ensure machinery, equipment, and facilities are properly maintained, sanitized, and compliant with safety and operational standards.
Maintain positive relationships with regulatory agencies, addressing any USDA or other government-related concerns.
Foster strong communication across all levels of the organization to ensure transparency regarding Coolers operations.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Operations or Plant Manager.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED required; college training in relevant fields preferred but not required.
3-5 years of supervisory experience in a meat processing environment, with a focus on cooler operations.
Knowledge of carcass chilling, inventory management, and product specifications.
Strong problem-solving, leadership, and communication skills.
Proven experience working with USDA graders and understanding of USDA grading processes and regulations.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and production systems (e.g., Kronos, SAP) preferred.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with team members, management, and regulatory auditors.
Ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships, fostering a collaborative work environment.
Participate in training programs to improve skills.
Follow all company policies and procedures.
Functional Requirements:
Ability work in a cold, damp, and noisy environment with exposure to slick floors, knives, hot water, and production machinery.
Physical demands include extensive walking, stair climbing, and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Flexibility to work extended hours, including Saturdays, as needed.
