Audiology Technician (Newborn Screener) (Finance)
Responsible for performing testing and maintaining data related to audiology services. May perform automated hearing screenings, and first follow-up screenings, for infants born at Memorial Hermann Hospital or care for UT Physicians patients in clinic as directed by supervising audiologist.
Position Key Accountabilities:
1. Performs hearing screenings and first follow up screenings using automated equipment for all babies born at Memorial Hermann Hospital.
2. Maintains TEHDI database and upload results from screenings into TEHDI database. Enters results into EMR.
3. Provides written information to families regarding hearing, developmental milestones, and follow up instructions. Schedules diagnostic follow up appointments with audiologist.
4. Provides patient's family with information regarding the purpose of newborn hearing screenings and how they work.
5. Maintains equipment including daily biological check, cleaning of equipment, inventory, and ordering of supplies.
6. May perform diagnostic, counseling, and rehabilitative services to clinical patients as directed by supervising audiologist.
7. Performs other duties as assigned.
Certification/Skills:
Computer skills including basic data entry, ability to utilize automated auditory brainstem response equipment and some specialized audiology equipment, basic verbal communication skills, and good interpersonal skills.
Minimum Education:
High school diploma or equivalent. Must be able to complete training including automated hearing screening, data entry, EMR training, infection control, universal precautions, and CPR.
Minimum Experience:
Health care experience supplemented by work in the field of audiology preferred. Previous experience in a hospital setting and with pediatric patients (infant/newborn) preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
