Senior Systems Engineer (Remote) (Biotech)
The E.W. Scripps Company is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer, responsible for installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware, software, operating systems, and related infrastructure. Support the company's infrastructure and ensure that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational standards.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
Responsible for the enterprise monitoring, maintenance, and administration to include Windows and Linux servers, Active Directory, VMWare, and infrastructure tools and disaster recovery
Administers cloud-based infrastructure to include AWS and Azure based servers
Meets with system engineers regarding current and prospective systems changes and future needs
Provides level 3 technical support to internal and external customers as necessary
Identifies system resources that are nearing capacity, and recommends solutions to resolve potential system resource over-allocation proactively
Participates in on-call rotation to include after-hours, and weekend activities in a production environment
Participates in, or independently perform, scheduled after-hours/weekend system deployment and maintenance activities
Creates and updates process documentation and standards
Maintains a positive working relationship with IT technical staff, customers, and managed services providers
Coordinates with network engineers, systems analysts, programmers, and other software engineers to resolve any defects in products or company systems
Performs software improvements and upgrades for optimal performance
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
5+ years of experience in an enterprise production oriented, highly available, hosted operations environment required
Certification in any current production environment a plus. Example: Azure, AWS, VMware cert
ITIL certification a plus
WHAT YOU'LL BRING:
5+ years server system troubleshooting experience required
Advanced knowledge of Windows Server or Linux systems with an understanding of the other operating system.
Prior experience with Microsoft Active Directory and GPO administration, PowerShell scripting and automation skills relative to infrastructure technologies
Experience at working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment is essential
Demonstrated experience administering public cloud infrastructure such as Microsoft Azure or AWS
Ability to work and prioritize tasks in a high-pressure environment is crucial
Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities
Proven experience with monitoring software such as Nagios, SCCM or the like.
Strong written and oral communication skills with a strong attention to detail
Strong interpersonal skills
Customer service skills an asset
Understanding of infrastructure as code a plus
Understanding of ITIL principles
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Overtime hours may be required during system outages or to meet project deadlines
Ability to lift and install rack-mounted servers
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other devices and objects
Some travel will be required (less than 10%)
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
