Position Summary: The Director of Nursing (DON) has the twenty-four (24) hour responsibility for nursing care of residents through the performance of the nursing personnel. This position is responsible for providing a “system of care” for residents in a manner and environment that promotes maintenance or enhancement of each resident's quality of life and provides dignity and respect in full recognition of each resident's individuality. The DON establishes policies, procedures, objectives, and work standards while directing the nursing personnel in a manner which ensures quality resident care. The DON is required to maintain a professional philosophy which grows and adapts to the prevailing philosophy of the industry and imparts this philosophy to the nursing staff. This position is responsible for ensuring that the “system of care” meets all federal, state, and local regulations. The DON reports to the Healthcare Administrator.
Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's Degree from a four-year college in a related field, degree from accredited school of nursing or equivalent experience. A current, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in the Commonwealth of Virginia, a minimum of one (1) year of experience with management or supervisory in geriatrics and be knowledgeable of state and federal regulations in the long-term care and assisted living setting.
