Position Overview
Texas Materials has an immediate opening for a geotechnical lab technician in our Gulf Coast area in Houston, TX. We comprise a major US subsidiary of CRH Americas Materials, the leading vertically integrated supplier of aggregates, asphalt, cement, ready-mix concrete and paving services in the United States and Canada.
In this role the technician would report to QC Supervisor of Recycled Aggregates. Main job responsibilities include performing geotechnical testing on soils, aggregates, and cement stabilized material, driving to, and collecting samples from sites and stockpile yards, and maintaining laboratory equipment and the company provided vehicle.
After a successful interview process, applicants will need to undergo a drug screening to finalize hiring.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
• Adherence to QC Plan, Standard Practices and safety policies
• Coordinates with Lead Geotechnician and QC Manager daily schedule to ensure proper samples are obtained
• Utilize Teams and Microsoft Office Suite to review testing schedule
• Sample materials from production plants using TxDOT approved methods
• Correctly label sample bags, test sheets, and testing trays
• Maintain a clean and organized workspace, lock up at end of day, consolidate materials in ovens as needed
• Report any health and safety concerns to management, as well as any broken equipment or equipment in need of repair or supplies for replacement
• Perform a variety of geotechnical testing including, but not limited to:
o Sieve Analysis
o Atterberg Limits
o Linear Bar Shrinkage
• Record test data on approved laboratory worksheets
Other Responsibilities
• Obtain/maintain technician certification
• Maintain company vehicle (if assigned) clean and in working order
• Take notes on plant status in field notebook when performing sample collection
• Keep track of PPE, replace as needed
• Perform other duties as assigned by QC Lead Lab Tech, Supervisor, or Management
Qualifications
• Strong communication skills
• TxDOT SB101 certification preferred
• Time management skills
• Drivers license
