POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Director of the Office of National Scholars (ONS), the incumbent will implement, develop, and evaluate experiential learning pathways for public service and undergraduate research opportunities locally, regionally, and nationally. The incumbent will advise students and liaise with relevant USF entities and academic units. The incumbent will coordinate efforts with USF Research and Innovation's Office of Student Engagement in Research and Innovation (SERI), Career Services, the USF Global and National Security Institute, the School of Public Affairs, the Assistant Dean of Student Success at the Judy Genshaft Honors College, and the Office of Decision Support for data gathering, reporting, and analysis.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop and maintain a database of experiential learning opportunities to assist students who aspire to live as a public servant and help them develop a strong profile for public service careers supported by national awards. Advise students in a student-facing role to guide them in application to pursue these experiences.
Collaborate with ONS advisors on developing strong ties between experiential learning and undergraduate research to competitive national awards such as the Harry S. Truman Scholarship, the Phi Beta Kappa Key into Public Service
Scholarship, the Udall Scholarship, the Goldwater Scholarships, and other similar prestigious public service and research-focused national awards.
Collaborate with SERI and other entities invested in Undergraduate Research on campus to develop a robust pipeline for students aspiring to participate in paid Research
Experience for Undergraduates (REU). Develop an advising plan in collaboration with ONS advisors, including creating and maintaining a database of opportunities and conducting data-driven evaluation of these plans on delivering desired outcomes.
Pursue professional development opportunities to learn best practices for student engagement in experiential learning, including but not limited to: attending relevant workshops, trainings, and conferences of the National Society for Experiential Education
Deliver student and faculty workshops on REUs with ONS advisors and independently to raise campus awareness of related opportunities and serve on pertinent university committees.
Performs other duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
This position requires a Bachelor's degree, with at least one year of experience in a student affairs or student personnel position; or a Master's degree in Higher Education, College Student Personnel, or Sports Recreation Administration.
FLSB1310 Equivalency:
4 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted for bachelor's degree.
PREFERRED:
Direct experience with national scholarships is preferred. A Master's degree in any discipline and experience engaging with and advising high achieving students is preferred. Ease and experience with database management and related software is desired.
SPECIAL SKILLS/TRAINING:
Familiarity or direct experience with national scholarships is preferred. Strong writing and public speaking skills are a must.
