Job Summary: Teaches private skate lessons at the level of their Professional Skater's Association (P.S.A.) or equivalent instructor's rating.
Essential Job Functions: Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor does the list include all tasks, which may be expected to be completed.
-Enforces ice skating rules and regulations necessary for the safety of skating patrons.
-Reports all exceptional occurrences to the supervisor.
-Cleans and maintains Skate Instructor's locker room.
-Attends scheduled Pro Staff meetings.
-Required to maintain necessary logs and records relating to the teaching of Ice Skating.
-Maintains a P.S.A. or equivalent rating for ice skating instruction.
-Conducts annual goal meetings with parent/guardian of the skater.
-Performs any other related or similar duties as assigned.
-Abide by the employees rules of conduct and performance, stated in the City of Fort Collins Employee Manual along with specific ethics standards for an Ice Skating Instructor set by the Professional Skaters Association, P.S.A. or equivalent and EPIC.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities for Performance Advancement
Performance Level 1
-Performs as required by the job description with direct supervision.
-Passed the Juvenile Freestyle test in U.S.F.S.
-Restricted to teaching low level beginner skaters only, up to Open Juvenile.
Performance Level 2
-To qualify for level 2, the following must be achieved:
-For a freestyle coach, must have passed the U.S.F.S. juvenile freestyle test.
-For a Pairs coach, must have passed the U.S.F.S. Juvenile pairs test.
-For a Dance Coach, must have passed the U.S.F.S. Bronze dance test.
-P.S.A. or equivalent member in good standing. Acquire a PSA or equivalent rating. USFS compliant category "A or B" Coach.
-Favorable evaluation by the Ice Coordinator.
Performance Level 3
-A high level of proficiency and expertise in the instruction of figure skating is expected. To qualify for level 3, the following must be achieved:
-For a freestyle coach, must have passed the U.S.F.S. intermediate freestyle test and/or a P.S.A. or equivalent Registered rating in Freestyle.
-For a Pairs coach, must have passed the U.S.F.S. Juvenile pairs test and/or a P.S.A. or equivalent Registered rating in Pairs.
-For a Dance Coach, must have passed the U.S.F.S. Bronze dance test and/or a P.S.A. or equivalent Registered rating in Dance.
-Member in good standing and a P.S.A. or equivalent rated instructor. USFS compliant category "A or B" Coach.
-At least 2 years' experience in teaching private skate lessons.
-Favorable evaluation by the Ice Coordinator.
Performance Level 4
-To qualify for level 4, the following must be achieved:
-For a freestyle coach, must have passed the U.S.F.S. Novice freestyle test and/or a P.S.A. or equivalent Certified rating in Freestyle.
-For a pairs coach, must have passed the U.S.F.S. Novice pairs test and/or a P.S.A. or equivalent Certified rating in Pairs.
-For a Dance Coach, must have passed the U.S.F.S. Silver dance test and/or a P.S.A. or equivalent Certified rating in Dance.
-Member in good standing and a P.S.A. or equivalent rated instructor. USFS compliant category "A" Coach.
-At least 3 years' experience in teaching private skate lessons.
-Favorable evaluation by the Ice Coordinator.
Performance Level 5
-To qualify for level 5, the following must be achieved:
-For a freestyle coach must have passed the U.S.F.S. junior freestyle test and/or a P.S.A. Senior or equivalent rating in Freestyle.
-For a Pairs Coach must have passed the U.S.F.S. Junior pairs test and/or a P.S.A. Senior or equivalent rating in Pairs.
-For a Dance Coach must have passed the U.S.F.S. Pre-Gold dance test and/or a P.S.A. Senior or equivalent rating in Dance.
-Member in good standing and a P.S.A. Senior or equivalent Rated Instructor. USFS compliant category "A" Coach.
-At least 4 years' experience in teaching private skate lessons.
-Favorable evaluation by the Ice Coordinator.
Performance Level 6
-To qualify for level 6, the following must be achieved:
-For a freestyle coach must have passed the U.S.F.S. senior freestyle test and/or a P.S.A. Master or equivalent rating in Freestyle.
-For a Pairs coach, must have passed the U.S.F.S. Senior pairs test and/or a P.S.A. Master or equivalent rating in Pairs.
-For a Dance Coach must have passed the U.S.F.S. Gold dance test and Free Dance and/or a P.S.A. Master or equivalent rating in Dance.
-Member in good standing and a P.S.A. Master or equivalent Rated Instructor. USFS compliant category "A" Coach.
-At least 5 years' experience in teaching private skate lessons.
-Favorable evaluation by the Ice Coordinator.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work Environment: Work is performed in several environments as follows: 1) skating on an ice arena surface; 2) standing and moving about in a cold environment; 3) traveling to a variety of City locations; 4) sitting for extended periods of time while attending meetings; 5) some in-state travel.
Physical Demands: Work will require the following: 1) regular standing, walking and ice skating; 2) bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, jumping, twisting, balancing, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and climbing; physical activity required while skating; 3) Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.4) hand-eye coordination; 5) foot-eye coordination; 6) vision to read written materials and to observe programs; and 7) speech and hearing capabilities to maintain communications with employees and citizens. 8) Must be able to meet the requirements to obtain First Aide/CPR Training within the first six months of employment, and knowledge of emergency procedures.
